Unusual Fears And Phobias

Fear is probably the most irrational and most crippling emotion there is. Nothing good comes from fear, but it’s a natural feeling that we as humans get from time to time. That being said, there are some perfectly understandable fears out there, others… not so much. Take a look at these very unusual, yet very real phobias and you’ll see what I mean:

Coulrophobia – fear of clowns (this one’s understandable)

Omphalophobia – fear of the navel

Pogonophobia – fear of beards

Anthophobia – fear of flowers

Heliphobia – fear of sunlight, for all you vampires reading this

Dextrophobia – fear of objects to one’s right

Papyrophobia – fear of paper (filling out a job application is enough of a nightmare already)

Domatophobia – fear of houses and living inside them

Arithmophobia – fear of math and numbers

Sophophobia – fear of learning new things

Barophobia – fear of gravity

Mnemophobia – fear of memories

Sitophobia – fear of eating

Cathisophobia – fear of sitting down

Allodoxaphobia – fear of opinions

Nomatophobia – fear of names

Sesquipedalophobia – fear of long words (ironic, isn’t it?)

Phophobia – fear of having fear, or a phobia

Somniphobia – fear of falling asleep

Oikophobia – fear of household appliances

I personally have a life-long fear of clowns and heights, and I thought those were pretty bad until I saw the other phobias above. *shudder* Could you imagine being afraid of houses and living inside them or afraid of your memories? Terrifying.

Fear is a natural emotion that we all possess, therefore it’s generally understandable. With that being said, what do you fear?
